The round-up
After a quick round of current “value proving” challenges, we all agreed that how you position your work/impact/opinion is just as important as what you are positioning.
qualitative value can be just as important as a number
third-party validation, social proof, internal interviews all are excellent evidentiary tools and can actually enhance any numbers you may have
articulating value gets easier when people understand your discipline, so it pays to invest in cross-functional literacy
meet your colleagues where they are. do they understand your jargon? how much context do they have? make it a point to educate them on your area of expertise, so that it’s easier for them to understand you in the future
business case tips were flying as well:
when it doubt, call it an experiment. a near-universal carte blanche!
find a framework to help people orient themselves to your ask. t-shirt sizing, 131 method, SWOT were all mentioned
keep it simple and paint the picture: the what, the how, the potential result

Getting what you need from leadership
Friday, 9/25 at 12PM ET (register here)
Ask not what your leadership can do for you, but how you can get your leadership to do the things you need them to do:
tactics depending on what you are asking for: a decision, input/feedback, air cover or time
points-of-view on asking for forgiveness v. permission
problem solving if you have a specific situation
