The Go-Round: Consulting Edition

Owning your career was the big takeaway from a great cross-section of people: some in full-time roles, some in transition, and some deep in self-employment.
Your time and mind are the product
when you’re at a company, wasted time is on their dime. when you work for yourself, you feel it immediately.
in consulting-land, anything beyond 1-2 calls starts being too generous
and smaller companies will move the line if you let them, so be firm when you set expectations
this isn’t just a consultant thing: impromptu “quick sync”, getting invited to every meeting, “but you’re so good at it”, etc. etc.
Your next thing will come from your network (hey fam)
at this stage of your career, whatever’s next will come from a first- or second-degree connection
relying on people thinking of you unprompted is not a good strategy (shoutout to our marketing friends)
personal brand matters: the easier it is to say what you do, the easier it is for people to remember you when they need you
which means you need to be out in the streets, posting where your network hangs out (LinkedIn)
yes, it’s cringe. Yes, it’s filled with AI slop.
keep a running list of specific ideas, commit to 50 AI-free posts and then judge the results
If you see Third Rodeo finally posting on LinkedIn, you’ll know we crossed the cringe chasm.

goals and KPIs
policies, benefits, org structure
tool stack
Next Friday
The Haunted Go-Round • 10/30 @ Noon ET

It's spooky season! Gather round the campfire and share your ghost stories:
projects/initiatives that went wildly wrong
the day something broke at the worst possible moment
lessons learned the hard way
Down the trail
November’s events coming soon. There’s still time to suggest a topic or format - just hit reply.
